Obedience is such a bitter pill to swallow for many of us
because our sinful and selfish nature controls and dictates our actions.
The world sees obedience as being inferior and a sign of weakness, but Scripture says otherwise.
It is actually the evidence of our love for Christ (John 14:15),
our response to what He has done for us on the cross.
In the context of marriage, we are commanded to obey our earthly husbands (unless they ask us to sin), not because they are right, but in obedience to God who gave them authority over us.
Yes, husbands are our earthly superiors/ masters (Ephesians 6:5) whom God has called to lead,
protect and provide for us.
It is God we please when we obey the leaders/ authorities HE placed over us (Romans 13:1),
trusting that HE is able to change the hearts of our earthly masters,
most specially in times when we feel that their decisions are not right or unbiblical.
Our Lord Almighty cannot be limited because HE is our limitless God.
Proverbs 21:1 ERV
To the Lord, a king’s mind is like a ditch used to water the fields.
He can lead the king wherever he wants him to go.
The question now is how do we obey then? Let’s remember the acronym OBEY
O — Out of Love
We obey because we love Him and He first loved us (John 14:15).
B — Because He’s Lord
Jesus is our Lord, and Master and is worthy of our obedience (Philippians 2:10–11).
E — Example to Follow
He first modeled obedience to us first by obeying the Father (John 13:15).
Y — Yielded Heart
Genuine obedience is rooted from a heart surrendered to His will (Romans 12:1–2).
