Forgiveness can be a trust issue with God being just. Is He really going to repay and avenge? Withholding forgiveness can feel like it’s the last thing I can control but the offender sometimes oblivious or calloused is fancy free, I’m the only one remaining in torment. Surrendering the reins to God to be The God of Justice for whom there is no partiality or bribes gives Him full control without my disobedience (in the form of unforgiveness) hindering my prayers from being heard. .
In Psalms, David cried out to God against those who behaved like enemies to him. (The bible reveals in Eph 6:12-18 that in reality, our battle is not against human beings but against dark spiritual forces in the heavenly realms so the person you are having a hard time forgiving is not the enemy).
.
“Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord.”
Romans 12:19 NIV
.
“You have wearied the Lord with your words. “How have we wearied him?” you ask. By saying, “All who do evil are good in the eyes of the Lord, and he is pleased with them” or “Where is the God of justice?””
Malachi 2:17 NIV
