The barrage of bad news can be overwhelming. There are many things outside of my control but they are within God’s control. What is in my control is to choose God’s perspective and seek to obey Him even though imperfectly.

.

Ordinary simple tasks done from the heart … are like the bread and cheese that David was willing to deliver to his brothers and the army unit commander. He was willing to be humble to serve others and submit to his authority (father) despite having already been anointed as king. He was belittled and judged but he kept his faith, remembering God’s faithfulness in the past.

.

David’s willingness to be humble to do the ordinary led him to one of the most significant milestones of his faith—defeating Goliath.

.

We can serve God in the here and now with what we have. He has already considered our limitations.

.

The bible describes our life as “mist that appears for a little while;” “tomorrow has enough trouble of its own” but I can ask God for grace for today, to “accomplish the work God gives me to do” in a way pleasing to Him.

.

To not get overwhelmed, I can remind myself that my job is to obey God for today. His job is everything else.

.

“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” Matt 6:33-34 NIV
